For cafés
Run a café in a state phasing out single-use cups?
Six out of eight Australian states and territories have committed to ban single-use plastics. Our Kinds is the community-based reusable cup system designed to slot into your morning rush — not detract from it.
The Our Kinds café model
Tracking the movement, not the people.
A community-based reusable cup system designed with non-personalised blockchain data. It runs as a subscription we organise with partnering cafés.
No app for your customers. No fees. We replace the standard single-use cup with a standard reusable cup — supplied through the existing supply chain.
How we set it up
Four steps. We do most of the lifting.
Step 1
Crates arrive
We deliver and unpack the cups and Our Kinds kit with you and your team.
Step 2
Scanning goes live
Set up the scanning workflow at the counter. No app, no fees for the customer.
Step 3
Existing cups get coded
Add blockchain QR codes to any reusable cups already in circulation.
Step 4
We tell your story
Social and mainstream media announcements — your customers see the change.
Saved 7,000 cups and lids in six weeks. Broke even within the first month. 100% reuse sustained for nearly two years.
FAQ
The questions we get most.
Reusing cups? Is that clean?
Same as eating out at a restaurant, or over at a (very clean) friend's house. Cups are washed, sanitised, and dried in line with the Australia and New Zealand food standards code.
What are the cups made from?
The first trial line is melamine. We're starting through small batch trials to make sure the system works, then partnering with artists and designers for future batches — but the original trial cups stay in circulation as the vintage OK cups.
Does every cup have to be an Our Kinds cup?
No. It's less about the cup and more about bringing them back. Your café can buy blockchain stickers from us to put on your own reusable cups — we'll still surface your impact data and help with comms.
Why is the data important?
We want to be measurable. We want to know how many cups are in circulation and whether we're truly making a difference. We track the movement, not the people.
How is the data collected?
When the coffee is paid for, the barista scans the cup's barcode — just like putting through a purchase. The location uploads to a publicly accessible data cloud so you and your customers can see the shared impact.
